Course Description

SQL for Beginners: SQL & T-SQL Fundamentals (Free)

This course introduces the core concepts of SQL and the fundamentals of working with T-SQL in Microsoft SQL Server.

It is Part 1 of a 5 course SQL beginner series and represents the starting point of structured SQL learning. If you have completed the setup course, you should now have a working SQL Server environment ready to use.

This course combines two key elements. A conceptual introduction to SQL, and your first practical interaction with SQL Server using T-SQL.

What You Will Learn

You will learn:

  • What SQL is and how it is used to interact with databases
  • How SQL fits within relational database systems
  • The difference between SQL and database-specific implementations such as T-SQL
  • How SQL interacts with a database engine
  • Why SQL is considered a standard language across database platforms
  • How to check your SQL Server version using T-SQL
  • How to use PRINT to return output from SQL Server
  • How SQL Server evaluates basic expressions
  • How the + operator behaves with numbers and text
  • How to write and use comments in T-SQL
  • How to execute simple SQL statements in a controlled environment

Course Structure

This course is divided into two parts:

  • A structured introduction to SQL concepts delivered in a lecture format
  • A set of practical T-SQL workshops where you begin executing code

The introduction focuses on understanding how SQL works before moving into execution.

The workshops focus on simple, controlled examples designed to build confidence working inside SQL Server.

What This Course Covers

This course focuses on SQL fundamentals and first execution using T-SQL.

It is designed to give you a clear understanding of how SQL works before moving on to database development and data manipulation.
