King & Kingdom: A Contextual Bible Study of Matthew

King & Kingdom: A Contextual Bible Study of Matthew, A chapter by chapter commentary on Jesus’ most emphasized and misunderstood ideas, looking at Jewish history and culture.

Did you know that the Bible is not written for Christians? It seems funny to think about, but the original authors and audience were mostly Jewish, which SHOULD greatly affect how we read and understand the world that Jesus of Nazareth interacted with. Unfortunately, most people don’t think about that when they approach the Bible. And then get really bored or confused. Because If you miss the Jewish history, hierarchy, traditions and culture, much of what Jesus did loses its significance.

What was Jesus’ focus? What were his main teachings? Why did he rile up the crowds? Why did the religious leaders want to off him? Why did people want to give up everything they own to follow him around?

If you’re new to Christianity or interested in comparing religions, join me for a look at:

  1. How to read the Bible in its historical contexts
  2. How to reconcile apparent contradictions in the various accounts
  3. What Matthew believed Jesus great themes were, and how he presented them
  4. What people saw in Jesus, and why he stirred up so much controversy

All without coercion or assumption that you need to convert :).

Just good discussion.

We’ll break it down like this–you’ll read on your own, answer a few questions on each section and then I’ll include my ideas in a summary lecture. Here are the different segments
