Body Confidence and Self Esteem: Ending the Mirror War, Body image without shame: the mirror, diet culture, and making peace with food and your body.
Course Description
You know the moment. You’re on your way out the door, coat half on, running late as usual, and you catch sight of yourself in the hall mirror.
And it starts before you’ve even found your keys.
The tugging at your top. The turning sideways. The little sigh. That wave of “ugh” that lands somewhere in your chest and then comes with you. Into the car. Onto the school run. Into work, into the supermarket, into a night out you’d genuinely been looking forward to since March.
For a lot of us it’s the first thought of the morning and the last one at night. Feet haven’t even hit the carpet yet, and there it is, waiting.
I call it the war. And I’ve never met a single person who couldn’t tell me exactly what theirs sounds like.
This little course is about easing it.
Not winning it. Not switching it off. Easing it, gently, toward something quieter and a good deal kinder than what you’ve been living with.
This course is supportive education. It is not treatment.
I’m a coach. I’m not a doctor, I’m not a therapist, and no course of mine can be treatment for an eating disorder or for a body-image condition. It isn’t built to be, and I’d never pretend otherwise. It’s designed to sit alongside professional support, never instead of it.
So if how you feel about your body is causing you real distress, if it takes up most of the room in your head, most days, or it’s frightening, or it’s stopping you living your life. Please reach out for proper support. And if eating or exercise has turned into a way to restrict, or to punish, or to control how you feel, that’s the moment to reach out as well. Not later. Not once you’ve sorted yourself out a bit first.
Two doors, and both of them are open.
Your GP, who has heard all of this before and honestly will not be shocked.
Who this course is for:
- Slimmers in their thirties, forties and fifties who’ve been quietly at war with the mirror for years and have never once said it out loud
- Slimmers over 40 and anyone doing midlife who’s noticed the war got louder, not quieter, as the years went on
- Anyone whose body image, body confidence and self esteem have been tangled up with a size for as long as they can remember
- Anyone curious about body neutrality and body positivity as ideas, who wants somewhere gentler to start than “love yourself”
