Introduction to Artificial Intelligence for Beginners, A plain-language introduction to what AI is, how it works, and how to use it responsibly. No coding required.

What you’ll learn

  • Explain in plain language what artificial intelligence is and how it differs from machine learning and deep learning
  • Describe how a machine learns patterns from data, including the difference between training and inference
  • Describe, at a conceptual level, how neural networks and large language models produce their outputs
  • Identify common limitations of AI systems, including hallucinations, bias, and fixed knowledge cutoffs
  • Recognize where AI is already used in everyday tools and services
  • Describe key ethical considerations in AI, such as bias, fairness, and the use of data without explicit consent
  • Apply a simple checklist for using AI tools responsibly in everyday work

Course Description

“This course contains the use of artificial intelligence”.
This course provides a clear and accessible introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) for learners with little or no technical background. It is designed to develop a strong conceptual understanding of AI through concise lessons, visual presentations, and practical explanations, without requiring programming experience or advanced mathematics.

You will explore the fundamental concepts behind artificial intelligence, including what AI is, how it has evolved, why it has become increasingly important, and how machines learn from data. The course also explains the relationship between artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning, providing a foundation for understanding today’s AI technologies.

The course introduces key concepts behind modern AI systems, including training data, neural networks, and large language models. It also examines important limitations and challenges, such as AI hallucinations, bias, fairness, and knowledge limitations. In addition, you will explore common applications of AI in everyday life and learn practical principles for using AI tools responsibly and effectively.

The course includes 13 concise lectures totaling approximately one hour of video content. Each lesson focuses on a specific concept, clearly defines important terminology, and concludes with a summary of the key takeaways.

By the end of the course, you will have a solid foundational understanding of AI concepts, capabilities, applications, and limitations.

AI tools were used in creating this course. AI was used to help draft the lesson scripts and slides, and the narration is a synthetic (AI-generated) voice, not a recording of a human speaker. The instructor directed the course structure and content.

Who this course is for:

  • Beginners with no technical background who want a clear, conceptual introduction to artificial intelligence
  • Professionals in any field who want to understand the terms and ideas behind the AI tools they hear about
  • People who already use AI tools and want to understand, at a conceptual level, how they work and where they fall short
  • This course is not intended for learners who want to build or program AI systems. It is conceptual and contains no coding.
