Course Description
Very few organisations can switch from traditional, phase-gate project management to pure agile in one step, and very few should try. Contracts, regulation, safety cases, hardware lead times and governance boards are real. Yet teams still want the faster feedback, visibility and collaboration that agile practices bring. Hybrid project management is how you get both.
This course treats ways of working as a spectrum, from fully predictive to fully agile. You will learn why a hybrid approach is often the most realistic path to agility, how to place any project on the spectrum using its context, and how to grow an agile mindset in a team without imposing a framework by the book. You will also learn to respect the predictive end, and the assumptions that sit behind popular frameworks.
You will then walk along the spectrum through five scenarios. Scenario 1 adds high-impact practices to a mostly predictive project: a Kanban board, daily coordination, team norms, retrospectives, a definition of ready and done, pairing and flow. Scenarios 2 to 5 move agile into planning, requirements and development, until agile is used for most of the work. Along the way you will see how governance, planning and estimating change in a hybrid.
The final part is about making it fit for purpose. You will find the right practices, build an adoption backlog, visualise your approach, measure whether it is working, lead the change and avoid the common hybrid pitfalls. A section on hybrid in engineering and a full worked example bring everything together.
